Antique 1926 First National Bank of Merrick NY Sterling Silver Platter Award
ANTIQUE CIRCA MARCH 1926, LARGE STERLING SILVER 925 AWARD PLATTER / TRAY PRESENTED TO GEORGE E. DYKE, THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF MERRICK, NEW YORK USA MEASURES 11-5/8″ IN DIAMETER, TOTAL WEIGHT OF 389.7 GRAMS OR 12.53 TROY OUNCES Shows light wear from use and storage, including marks, scratches, a few small dents, and it retains a light level of original patina over the Sterling surface due to aging. It has nice shine as it is, is straight and not bent, with no major issues at all. The top center is period correct engraved reading ‘PRESENTED TO GEORGE E. DYKE, FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF MERRICK, NY, MARCH 1926″. It is hallmarked on the back STERLING 82, but I cannot find a maker’s hallmark. We did perform a stone and acid test, and it confirms Sterling silver. This was a recent purchase in our store, and given the unique history behind this piece, we felt it was worth saving and offering here.
