Antique 1910s ‘Thrift Campaign’ Advertising Card / The Franklin Life
16.00 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE StLouBrown’s Bygone Days “Let Bygones Be Back” The Franklin Life card advertising an “April Showers Thrift Campaign” shaped like an umbrella. Research suggests this is from the 1910s. According to a website examining “Coolidge Consumerism,” the nation’s first “thrift campaign” began in 1916 in response to efforts to support the Allies in World War I. They continued into the 1920s as efforts to educate children in the habit of thrift with an eye toward “sensible consumerism.” Additionally, this item was found in a box of ephemera kept by my grandmother which included advertising from the late 1910s and items on which she had written her maiden name, whose use she discontinued upon her marriage in 1921. The second one for sale is identical in appearance except that it is orange and the reverse indicates it is for $5,000. Item measures 3” wide x 3 3/8” long. All items have been stored in a smoke-free environment. Where applicable, combined shipping is available on multiple purchases. Combined purchases which include items with free shipping as well as those carrying a shipping charge will pay a shipping charge. On listings where multiple copies of the same item are listed, labels associated with a color such as “Item Name-Yellow” or “Item Name-Purple” refer only to the color of the background used for identification purposes. I want the buyer to be satisfied, so please feel free to ask any questions you might have. Your satisfaction 100% guaranteed, or simply return your purchase within 30 days for a full refund! Thank you for your patronage.
